Synthesis of Deguelin Derivatives as Anticancer

This research aims to identify potential anticancer compounds based on two rotenoids (deguelin and rotenone) that can extracted from local plants. Derivatives of the rotenoids were prepared via synthetic organic routes and subjected to anticancer activity assays. Prior to synthesis and based on the structures of the rotenoids of interest, computational studies were done to screen candidate analogues that show promising characteristics.  The synthesized compounds were also tested for their cytotoxicity towards liver and kidney cells.

Cancer - breast cancer and lung cancer

Oxime derivatives, succinic and glycolic ester -oximes, and hydroxylamine derivatives showed enhanced anticancer activity compared to the parent compounds, rotenone and deguelin. Derivatives were however found to be more cytotoxic to liver and kidney cells than the original compounds.
