Generation of Philippine data using the Global Ancestry Informative Markers (AIMs) Panel version 2

DNA is a powerful molecular tool used in forensics for identification of source of biological evidence such as blood, bones, saliva, and other bodily fluids or tissues. However, the power of DNA does not end in positive identification. Recent developments in forensic genetics involve DNA intelligence; or inferring other information from DNA that may lead to the identity of the source. One example of DNA intelligence is the inference of the ancestry of an individual based on their DNA. In this study, we aim to use a set of ancestry informative markers (AIMs) in order to determine if this set can discriminate the Filipino population from other populations. In addition, we would try to determine the best and most useful markers in the Filipino population. We would characterize the population structuring that will be exhibited by the samples based on these markers.
