A 4 ha plantation farm is being maintained. One-half is intercropped to kapok trees for maximum land utilization, to minimize weed infestation, and provide the shading condition required for plant growth. Leguminous crops were intercropped with lagundi and sambong. Results of lagundi studies revealed significant differences in height of plants at pruning and number of harvestable leaves per branch. Sambong when intercropped with cowpea performed significantly better compared with other treatments evaluated. Production of yerba buena as influenced by rate and time of nitrogen application was done using urea as fertilizer and spot method followed by irrigation. The project is conducting an experiment on the influence of different thickness of rice straw mulch on yerba buena production and on population dynamics of insect pests of five Philippine medicinal plants.
The study aims to set up a pilot farm for the production of selected Philippine medicinal plants.
