Patient's profile: A total of 128 blood specimens were collected from 101 in-patients and 27 out-patients. Of the in-patients, 54 were admitted in government hospitals and 47 from different private hospitals in Cebu City. The ages of these patients range from 3 months to 69 years old. Eighty two were males while 46 were females. Ninety one of these live in urban areas.

General Objective: To determine the validity of darkfield examination in the diagnosis of leptospirosis compared to culture.Specific Objective: To determine the sensitivity, specificity, positive and predictive values, and accuracy of darkfield examination using blood specimen for the diagnosis of leptospirosis
