Analgesic order 8301, bioassay procedures for analgesic was developed using a device to measure/record animal responses to painful stimulus. Preliminary trials of charcoal tracing methods in measuring antidiarrheal effects, and sensitivity of method in measuring dose-response relationships was done. A cough chamber was also designed for measuring antitussive effects of plant products. (Author)
The project aims to set up a bioassay laboratory for medicinal products from indigenous plant materials; develop standard bioassay procedures in animals for determining pharmacological potencies of various medicinal plant products; and determine comparative pharmacological potencies of different batches of medicinal plant preparations. It seeks to assure th quality and safety of mass produced medicinal plant products; and develop and train manpower for the expansion and regionalization of medicinal plant research, education, and utilization.
