Corticosteroids and the salicylates in acute rheumatic carditis: A comparative study.

1. Two hundred and nineteen (219) cases of apparent acute Rheumatic carditis admitted in the VLGH from 1956-1960 were reviewed for this report.
2. Nineteen (19) were excluded from our series for their inadequate clinical and laboratory findings, leaving 200 for our report.
3. Our youngest patient was 10 months and the oldest was 79.
4. The age bracket of our greatest number of patients (35) was between 30-34.
5. The salicylates showed better results (98.41%) than the steroids (61.54%).
6. The steroid-salicylate combination (96.-6%) was slightly less efficient than the salicylates (98.41%).
