Posterior colpotomy in gynecology.

1. Posterior colpotomy was used in nine cases divided as follows:
a. 3 cases of ectopic pregnancy
b. 2 cases of ovarian cysts
c. 2 cases of psychophysiologic reaction-gynecoid type
2. Spinal anesthesia was used in all cases.
3. Average hospital stay was three days.
4. There were no post-operative complications noted in any of above mentioned cases.
5. Posterior colpotomy has the advantage over culdoscopy and colpocentesis in that it gives more diagnostic information. It is safer than anterior colpotomy. Moreover, extension of the incision after diagnosis and, with proper retraction, much pelvic surgery can be performed. (Summary and Conclusions)
