The mouth is home to numerous colonies of microorganisms. While most of these tiny oral bacteria do no harm, there are other species in the mix that are disease causing and can affect oral health. One of these is the Porphyromonas gingivalis. Its appearance usually indicate presence of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is one of the most common diseases of human kind. With the increasing interest in herbal medicine, thus study investigated on the potential inhibitory effect of turmeric, an Indian spice with known health benefits, against the said bacteria. The turmeric root extract was investigated in vitro for its potential inhibitory effect against Porphyromonas gingivalis in different concentrations.
