This study aimed to determine the sedative activity of Mansoa alliacea (garlic vine) crude leaf extract on male albino mice. The determination of the sedative activity in based on the mice's ratings in the screen grip test, ataxia, motor activity, and takes place test. The percent sedative activity was calculated based on the onset and maceration of action. Diazpem 5mg/ 100mL was used as the Positive Control, distilled water as the Negative Control, and a 2mg/mL stock solution of the test plant extract was used as the Test Solution. The Test solution showed to have a sedative activity. It's percent activity based on the onset of action was 62.963%, and the percent activity based on duration of action was 38.049%. Successive studies are mandatory to establish the precise nature of active constituents as well as the mechanism of actions of these constituents. The isolation of the different constituents of the plant is also recommended to determine which caused the sedative activity. In addition, a dose-dependent study of the extract of the plant extract is also needed to establish the minimum effective dose and lethal dose of the extract.
